Malang, Indonesia – October 7-8, 2024 – In a significant step towards fostering academic collaboration, Dr. Irving Domingo L. Rio, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Central Philippine University (CPU), and Prof. Lesley Joy L. Dignadice, Acting Director for Local and International Linkages and Affiliation Center, visited Universitas Merdeka Malang on October 7-8, 2024. The visit aimed to discuss the implementation of cooperative initiatives between the two esteemed institutions.

The visit commenced with a series of fruitful discussions with Dr. Sukardi, Vice Rector 1 for Academic Affairs, and Pindo Tutuko, ST., MT., Ph.D., Pg. Dip, Vice Rector 4 for Cooperation, alongside Deans from several faculties, including Economics and Business, Social Science and Politics, Engineering, Technology Information, Law, Tourism, and the Postgraduate Program. These discussions generated a plethora of cooperative initiatives, emphasizing mutual interests in research, student exchange, and joint programs.

On the second day, Dr. Rio delivered an International Guest Lecture titled “International Research and Faculty ASEAN Mobility: The CPU Experience.” This engaging session attracted Deans, Vice Deans, and Heads of Departments from seven faculties at Universitas Merdeka Malang. Dr. Rio’s lecture provided valuable insights on enhancing cooperation and fostering joint publications with partner universities, highlighting CPU’s successful experiences in international collaborations.

Participants expressed enthusiasm for the potential opportunities that could arise from the partnership, emphasizing the importance of academic mobility and joint research endeavors in today’s globalized educational landscape.

As the visit concluded, both universities expressed commitment to strengthening their partnership and exploring innovative ways to collaborate in the future, paving the way for a new chapter in academic cooperation in the ASEAN region.
